Some Classical Eye Candy (With a C-Section followup)

The Centuries Past tumblr thing — which posts art images of various kinds — is one of my current distractions and today they’ve posted a couple which seem worthy of sharing … the first is by Giovanni Lanfranco, depicting a naumachia:

The second is from a fourteenth century manuscript on the history of Rome in the British Museum … it depicts the birth of Julius Caesar:

If it is 14th century, this pushes back the connection between Caesar and the ‘section’ by a century or so (cf our previous post: Caesarian Section Redux )
