The Department of Classics at the University of Maryland, College
Park, invites applications from specialists in ancient Roman art,
history, literature and archaeology to lead a three-week study abroad
program in Italy (Campania and Rome) from January 4 to 22, 2015, with a
possible option to assist with a one-week study abroad program in Rome
from March 13 to 22 of 2015.

The successful candidate must be available during the dates of the
program(s) and have experience in leading similar study abroad programs,
and hold a PhD in classics, history or archaeology, with a
specialization in Roman history and/or material culture. Fluency in
Italian is desirable.

JOB | TEI goes social: Social Media Coordinator

The Text Encoding Initiative seeks a motivated volunteer to fill the newly created role of Social Media Coordinator. The successful candidate will maintain the TEI Consortium’s Facebook and Twitter presences and create entries for the blog and newsfeed
server, with the purpose of increasing the visibility of the TEI and improving its outreach activities. The role requires knowledge of the TEI and of social media, as well as enthusiasm for both.

The non-stipendiary appointment will be for one year, renewable for another. Reimbursement for expenses may be available for specific activities as approved by the Board of Directors; furthermore funding will be available to attend the annual Members
Meeting. We will cover individual TEI membership for one, conference registration at member rates, housing at conference rates for the duration, and reimbursement for travel, food and incidentals using the scale and forms published here:

The work will be conducted in close collaboration with the chairs of the Board and the Technical Council and a commitment to a roughly daily engagement with social media is expected.

Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a nine-month, full-time,
non-tenure track position at the rank of Lecturer with a target start
date of August 16, 2014. The position may be renewed based on
availability of funding, enrollments and strong performance reviews.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

Applicants must have a PhD in Classics or in a relevant field by the
starting date of the appointment. The successful candidate will be
expected to engage in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The Department of Classical and Oriental Studies invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Greek and Latin beginning Fall semester 2014. Area of specialization and/or research is open. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Greek and Latin at all undergraduate levels as well as Greek and Roman literature in translation, Classical civilization courses, and specialized topics courses. The successful candidate will also be expected to eventually take on administrative responsibilities, including those in Hunter’s MA program in teaching Latin. There will also be opportunities to teach in the various honors programs at Hunter College (Macaulay and Thomas Hunter).

Ph.D. degree in Classics by June, 2014 is required. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence or strong promise of excellence in both research and publication and in the teaching of Greek and Latin. Also required is the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
