The University of Otago is the oldest university in New Zealand. The Chair
in Classics was one of the three foundation chairs established in 1869,
and the Department is known for its excellence in research and teaching.
Our academic staff are recognised internationally for their scholarly
contributions in the broad fields of classical literature, history, and
archaeology, and are well represented in leading journals and on editorial
boards.We particularly seek a new colleague who will augment and bolster our
existing research strengths and innovative teaching programme. This
lectureship is a permanent, full-time (confirmation-path) position.
Applicants will be qualified at PhD level, and will show clear evidence
of, or at least strong potential for, internationally rated publications,
and a willingness to seek external research funds. (Please attach a sample

interests lie in any branch of classical studies, teaching expertise in
art/archaeology, mythology or philosophy or film/reception is desirable,
plus the ability to teach Greek language (preferably both Greek and Latin)
to a high level. Previous teaching experience (especially of large
classes) is also desirable, as well as a demonstrated ability to enthuse

The University of Toronto Department of Classics invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment in the field of Roman History. This position will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will commence July 1, 2013. An appropriate doctoral degree in Classics or a closely related discipline must have been earned by that date and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
We seek candidates with expertise in the history of ancient Rome. Expertise in late antiquity, law and/or religion is especially desirable. The successful applicant will demonstrate excellence in research and teaching, and will be expected to contribute to a research-intensive doctoral programme and to a thriving undergraduate programme in Latin, Greek, and Classical Civilization; an ability to teach Latin and Greek language at all levels is required.
The department welcomes a wide range of methods and innovative approaches to the study of history and is particularly interested in candidates who combine a thorough training in Classics with an interest in other disciplines in the humanities or social sciences. The Department of Classics collaborates with the graduate Department of History at York University through the Collaborative Program in Ancient History, and cooperates closely with the Archaeology Centre, the Centre for Medieval Studies, the Women and Gender Studies Institute, and the Departments of Art, History, Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations, Political Science, and Religion, among others, at the University of Toronto.

The Department of Classics at King’s College London is appointing to a three-year Lectureship in Greek and Latin Language and Literature.
The lecturer to be appointed should have been awarded a doctoral degree in the relevant field, or be close to submission of the doctoral thesis; proven research quality is required and the lecturer is expected to make a full contribution to the Department’s REF submission, appropriate to the appointee’s academic status and experience.
Candidates should specialise in any aspect of Greek and Latin language and literature. The lecturer will be expected to contribute flexibly to the teaching of Greek and Latin at BA and MA level. Supervision of undergraduate and MA dissertations will also be expected. An established record of effective teaching, at least to undergraduate level, is highly desirable. The lecturer will undertake administrative duties as required by the Head of Department, which are likely to include acting as a personal tutor.
