The Department of Classics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the College of Arts and Sciences seeks an assistant professor in Greek prose for a tenure-track appointment. The area of specialization is open, but we especially welcome candidates working on philosophical and rhetorical prose. Teaching duties will include graduate courses in Greek prose, as well as undergraduate courses in Greek and classical civilization. Assistant Professor of Early Christianity

The Tufts University Department of Religion seeks a specialist at the rank of Assistant Professor in Early Christianity. Applicants should possess a PhD or equivalent and should demonstrate a solid grounding in and critical understanding of the historyof early Christianity as well as of interactions among Judaism, Christianity, and Greco-Roman religion. The successful candidate must be able to teach courses in early Christianity, the New Testament and the early Church in addition to courses in her/his specialty. Beyond contributing to the core curriculum in the Department of Religion, we seek candidates whose research has the potential to expand approaches to the digital humanities at
Tufts as well as to augment the strengths of its Perseus Digital Library in Greek, Latin, or other languages complementary with the successful candidate’s research program.

In addition to an active research program, candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and advising. The Department of Religion confers the B.A. degree, and individual faculty members also sometimes advise students majoring in related interdisciplinary programs. Opportunities exist for the successful candidate in this position to advise the research of students pursuing the master’s degree in the graduate
programs housed in the Department of Classics.

The Department of Classics has been authorized to make an appointment
in Roman Material Culture at the rank of tenure-track Assistant
Professor starting fall 2014. Ph.D. required. We seek an individual
who will teach both Roman and Greek archaeology, as well as courses in
ancient civilization and Latin at all undergraduate
levels, and who will strengthen the undergraduate major in classical
archaeology and the graduate program in Mediterranean archaeology.

The successful candidate will show strong promise as a scholar and
teacher of Roman material culture, and demonstrated excellence in
teaching Latin. Ability to teach Etruscan archaeology and Greek
language courses is desirable.

The Department of Classics at the University of Toronto invites applications for a tenure stream appointment in the field of Roman History. This position will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will commence July 1, 2014. A doctoral degree in Classics or a closely related discipline must have been earned by that date or shortly thereafter.

The successful applicant will have demonstrated potential for excellence in research and teaching, and will be expected to contribute to a research-intensive doctoral program and to a thriving undergraduate program in Latin, Greek, and Classical Civilization; an ability to teach in our program in Classical languages at all levels is required. The Department welcomes a wide range of methods and innovative approaches to the study of history and is particularly interested in candidates who combine a thorough training in Classics with an interest in other disciplines in the humanities or social sciences. The Department of Classics collaborates with the graduate Department of History at York University through the Collaborative Program in Ancient History, and cooperates closely with the Archaeology Centre, the Centre for Medieval Studies, the Women and Gender Studies Institute, and the Departments of Art, History, Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations, Political Science, and Religion, among others, at the University of Toronto.
