The female figure reclining on this sarcophagus lid has been identified as Ariadne? That seems a mistake to me.
(1) Her pose doesn’t correspond to any standard Ariadne pose that I know of. (Her right arm and hand would need to be arched over her head, rather than crossing her torso to rest on her left shoulder.)
(2) She rests not on a rocky bed evoking the wild island on which she was marooned, complete with lizard at her feet (as on a sarcophagus lid in the Antalya Archaeological Museum that *does* depict a sleeping Ariadne), but, as far as I can see, on a kline, complete with cushions.
(3) Her hair is no idealized mythological coiffure, but a contemporary fashion hairstyle.
(4) And she holds a garland in one hand, as do so many other deceased men and women portrayed reclining on the lids of their sarcophagi.
Only the woman’s toplessness is unexpected, and may gesture at mythological portraiture (depicting a mortal in the guise of a god or hero), though it’s hardly specific as to which goddess that might be. But regardless, it’s almost certainly a portrait of the woman interred within.
