What a brutal way to go! Although, the article seems to point out that for many victims, it was, at least a mercifully quick way to go. (For the slower deaths… Ugh! Boy, do I feel sorry for those poor Joes and Janes!)
Then there was also Krakatoa, although that was less an eruption than a “BOOM!” If I recall, there was a volcano in Mexico that caused some nasty deaths a while back, too.
There was also a Washington State (?) volcano a few years ago, and there were a number of deaths from that… although nowhere near in number to the other examples.
All in all, I would rather be shot by a jealous lover than die in a Volcanic Eruption…! (Or any fire for that matter. But then I was in a fire as a kid, and one does not forget that!)
BTW The History Teachers have a French Lyrics Version to their Pompeii video… But it is only an MP3 song. The video is not there, nor is the “ticker tape text” captioning, at the bottom of the screen. Mrs.B does the singing. Her French is very good. But it is the “high end accent” Paris French. Not Provincial French, or Canadian French. You would have to ask them for the URL link. I do have the MP3, and will “email it” to people with a legitimate use for it, though… I do not think they would mind.
